Rodney McAlpine receives Medal of Bravery from Governor General

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, presented honours to 40 recipients during a ceremony at Rideau Hall on September 12, 2019. Canadians who risked their lives to save others in recent years were recognized for their acts of bravery. Her Excellency presented the Medal of Bravery to Commissionaire Rodney McAlpine, M.B.

Rodney McAlpine is a Commissionaire with Commissionaires Great Lakes, and lives in Barrie, Ontario. On May 14, 2015, Rodney intervened during a violent incident at the Keele Community Correctional Centre in Toronto, Ontario. In a sudden, unprovoked attack, an inmate turned on another man, stabbing him over 20 times. Though unarmed, Rodney ordered the man to stop and move to the other side of the room. When the assailant obeyed his orders, Rodney tended to the victim, while maintaining control of the situation until emergency personnel arrived.

Congratulations to Rodney McAlpine, M.B. on this well-deserved recognition.
